Chocolate Chip Cookies (Vegan and Oil Free)

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Servings 3 dozen


  • 1 cup tahini, peanut butter, or other nut/seed butter
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons milled flax seed mixed with 6 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups whole-wheat pastry flour
  • 1 cups rolled oats
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt optional
  • 10 ounces non-dairy chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts optional


  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Whisk together tahini or nut butter and maple syrup in a large mixing bowl, until smooth. (I use a KitchenAid mixer.)
  • Add flax seed mixture and vanilla extract.
  • Meanwhile, whisk together remaining ingredients, except chocolate chips and nuts.
  • Stir flour mixture into wet mixture just until blended.
  • Stir in chocolate chips and nuts, if desired.
  • Spoon batter onto baking sheet about 2 tbsp at a time. (I use a small ice cream scoop.)
  • Bake 12 minutes or until golden brown.
